Board Seeks New Director in Zone 5

Have you always wanted to serve on the Desert Healthcare District and Foundation Board of Directors? This could be your chance if you're eligible and live in the District's Zone 5. On May 14, 2019, the Board will interview candidates as it seeks to replace Director Jennifer Wortham, DrPH. Wortham resigned on April 15 prompted by work responsibilities that take her out of the Coachella Valley. Read more in English and Spanish here

Board of Directors Meeting Agendas and Minutes

The Board of Directors emphasizes the importance of community input with a 5:30 p.m. start time for Desert Healthcare District Board Meetings. The Foundation start time is immediately following the conclusion of District meetings. The District Board Meetings are held the fourth Tuesday of each month, and the downloadable and current board meeting agendas, packets, minutes, and audio recordings are available in one centralized location.  
Rezoning Process Begins April 23

Rezoning Process Begins April 23

The Desert Healthcare District, which expanded to cover the entire Coachella Valley last year, will establish seven new zones for the 2020 election. A public hearing on rezoning is planned for April 23 during the Board meeting, during which demography firm NDC will present two draft maps to get the conversation started. District Board Expands from 5 to 7 Directors

Karen Borja and Leticia De Lara were sworn in Jan. 15, 2019, as new Directors on the Desert Healthcare District and Foundation Board. Their appointments followed voters' support in November to expand District boundaries east of Cook Street. As a result, the Board conducted interviews of eligible applicants from the annexed area. Both Borja and De Lara live in Indio. Read more about them and the entire Board here.

District Dives Into Water Safety for Kids

For four years, the Desert Healthcare District/Foundation and community partners have offered swimming lessons to third-graders. More than 1,800 students have graduated from the program. In addition, Riverside County Department of Public Health educators teach the students about nutrition and making healthy eating choices.

Expansion Passes - What's Next?

On Nov. 6, 2018, Coachella Valley voters overwhelmingly approved Measure BB to expand the Desert Healthcare District to cover the entire valley. With expansion comes the appointment of two new Directors from the newly annexed area and rezoning the expanded District.
